Tips from 1st year GC Students

Ahh, January. The time of the year that genetic counseling prospective students both excitingly anticipate and painfully dread all in one breath.

Getting interview invites was definitely an exciting, and yet nerve wracking, time, so congratulations! You’ve put in hours of work shadowing, volunteering, writing your personal statement over and over again, GRE, etc…

Next step? I hate to break it to you, but you will need to do some more work. INTERVIEW PREPARATION!

For me personally(Mercedes), I did not know how to start my interview preparation, as I did not have any contacts at the time who had attended or were in a genetic counseling program. I relied on a couple of my undergraduate classmates and blogs to help me prepare. Other applicants I’m sure did more or less interview preparation. In any case – I have outlined some of the things that I did to prepare. I hope that my experience may help someone else !
