Student Enrichment Fund

The MS Genetic Counseling Program Student Enrichment Fund is used entirely to support student research projects and to fund professional development activities for currently enrolled students. Students may request funding to cover costs for their projects, such as mailings or survey incentives. Students also receive support for travel to the National Society of Genetic Counselors Annual Education Conference and other relevant professional meetings. Our students greatly benefit from these professional development activities.

The MS Genetic Counseling Program Student Enrichment Fund was recently renamed the Nancy P. Callanan Student Enrichment Fund. A group of esteemed alumni coordinated this name change to honor the MS Genetic Counseling Program’s founding Director, Ms. Nancy P. Callanan, MS, CGC.

Ms. Callanan received her MS in Human Genetics from Sarah Lawrence College in 1977. She brought over 20 years of clinical experience as an invited member of the program planning committee prior to being appointed Program Director in October 1999. Ms. Callanan served hundreds of students, peers and professional organizations throughout her dedicated career. In 2008, she was awarded the NSGC Natalie Weissberger Paul Lifetime Achievement Award for her exemplary national achievements and groundbreaking activities on behalf of the profession.

While Ms. Callanan retired in May 2016, her work and legacy remain. The foundation she created helped to launch the careers of hundreds of program alumni, and the path Ms. Callanan paved will enrich the training experience of genetic counseling students in many ways for years to come.
